I have been a computer programmer since 1973 and am interested in using my PHP and MySql skills to keep them sharp as well as to make supplemental income during my retirement.
I have strong skills in the Linux and Unix operating systems. My recent development experience is with PHP and C Language, using MySql, Oracle, Sybase and Informix databases. My biggest enjoyment comes from taking massive amounts of data and extracting useful summary information for my clients.
One thing that motivates me to stand out is that I put a lot of emphasis on being able to prove the effectiveness of my work. Often this is done by creating monitoring applications, via browser, that shows the system status of the application and server it runs on, as well as verification of the data used by the application (matching back output to input, etc.)
Since retiring in late 2013, I've volunteered my time and skills for Caritas VA and HCLE.org via telecommute. I am eager to help HCLE build the catalog.
History
I have worked in a wide variety of operating systems, from mainframe CICS, MVS VM and TSO, Data General mini computers and micro computers, and client server environments using Linux and Unix, running on SUN, DEC and Intel hardware. I've written code in PHP, C Language, COBOL, IBM Assembler, Intel Assembler, Visual Basic, RPG and others. My recent database experience is listed above, but I've also worked on other databases over the years.
Some of my more notable projects are
an aircraft weight and balance load correction program for Airbus aircraft
turning scanning data from across the globe and generating billing information from it
writing an application using industrial scanners, keypads and printers to handle scanning and sorting of scanned barcodes
developing a PC aircraft weight and balance application, distributing the software and data across the U.S. before PCs were commonly used
For the last two years prior to retirement, I was the support lead for CA's Wily and AppDynamics Application Program Monitoring software.
